Wojciech Polak was born in 1964 in Inowrocław, Poland. Ordained to the priesthood on 13 May 1989. He obtained a doctorate in moral theology and worked as professor, prefect of discipline and rector at the Primatial Major Seminary in Gniezno. On 8 April 2003 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Gniezno. Since 2011 he has held the position of secretary general of the Polish Episcopal Conference. Since 7 June 2014 he is metropolitan archbishop of Gniezno, primate of Poland. Since March 2019 he is a Delegate of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for the protection of children and youth.
